I used to ask myself questions like, who am I? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going? What is my purpose? I think all of us have as we begin to mature into the nature of ourselves. I used to ask myself how is it that I know "things" or how is it that I "see things". Ask a question and you will receive an answer. And so it was. Today I can say with all honesty, I know who I am. I know why I am here. I know where I came from and where I am going. I even know what my purpose here is. I have learned to find peace in my unanswered questions understanding now that the Great Spirit is also the Great Mystery and that some things will not be known to me fully. It’s just how it is.

In the beginning as the questions where forming and swirling around me I noticed I was drawn to herbs of every kind and took an interest in drums and rattles, feathers and crystals and to the stories told by Native Americans and other indigenous persons around the world. Some part of me knew that I knew how to do what they did. I wanted to learn more about what they where doing. So this is a little information on how it started for me and the teachers I chose to work with on my path to self discovery.

I started walking a medicine path 35 years ago after encountering a variety of psychedelic plant teachers. I began my shamanic training in 1994 participating in sacred circles and ceremonies with an Elder Heyoka Native American Medicine Woman known as Ganuela Jean learning the ways of woman and the way of the pipe. I married a Native American Miccosukee Indian               Medicine Man Frank in 1995

and moved into the River of Grass in the Florida Everglades and gave birth to a fourth son.  I finished a 4 year apprenticeship with Lynn V. Andrews at the Lynn Andrews Center for Sacred Art and Training in 2001. Lynn Andrews founded the center and is a best selling author of 19 books on shamanism including, "Medicine Woman" and "Jaguar Woman". I continued my apprentice training for another 4 years.  I attend the annual Joshua Tree gatherings hosted by Lynn every May. If you would like to take an apprenticeship or attend JT gathering click on www.LynnAndrews.com For 7 years during my apprenticeship with Lynn I hosted weekly sacred circle gatherings for her know as the Councils of the Whistling Elk. I was International Council Co-coordinator for the last 3 of those years. In 2002 I studied with world renowned seer Louise Haulk, author of "Adventures of a Seer" and “Heart Links” Visit Louise's web site at  www.louisehauck.com . I was A-CAM Certified (Aromatherapy-Complimentary Alternative Medicine) in the fall of 2003. My husband and I opened the Essential Apothecary in 2004.

I am Walkingbird. I got my name in a meditation workshop held by Tom Norris of www.MedicineSigns.com 16 years ago.  I am an anointed Shaman and an Ordained Minister.

if you would like to learn how you can find the answers to your questions, then tell the universe you are ready. Speak up so you will be heard. Speak to God directly, whatever God is to you. If you are not sure how to do this or where to start you may want to seek out a shaman to help you. Read books on the subject, meditate, take classes actively engage in the pursuit of your dreams and answers to your questions. I can think of no better way to start living a fuller life than to discover more about who you are and how you fit in to the bigger picture we call life.
